POCUS (Point-of-Care Ultrasound) Workshop for General Practitioners 2026
See More. Decide Faster. Manage Better.
Take your clinical assessment beyond history and physical examination with practical Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) skills designed specifically for General Practitioners.
This 2-day hands-on workshop introduces essential ultrasound applications that can support everyday clinical decision-making — from hepatobiliary and urinary assessment to trauma, basic cardiac, lung and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Organised by SALAMEDUMED in collaboration with IDSMed, the workshop combines focused teaching, practical demonstrations and guided hands-on scanning stations to help participants build confidence in handling an ultrasound machine and recognising important sonographic findings.
- 24 & 25 October 2026
- 8.30 AM – 5.00 PM
- IDSMed Training Facility, Glenmarie, Shah Alam
- 16 MMA CPD Points
What’s So SPECIAL About Our POCUS Workshop?
1. Hands-On Scanning, Not Just Lectures
POCUS is a practical skill — and this workshop is designed accordingly.
Participants will spend dedicated time at guided hands-on scanning stations, allowing them to practise probe positioning, image acquisition and identification of key anatomical structures under facilitator guidance.
2. Start From the Basics — Even If You’re New to Ultrasound
Never handled an ultrasound machine before?
No problem.
Day 1 begins with ultrasound knobology, image optimisation and basic scanning techniques, helping participants understand machine controls, probe handling and how to obtain usable ultrasound images before progressing into clinical applications.
3. Learn Scans Relevant to Everyday GP Practice
The programme focuses on ultrasound applications that may be useful in primary care and acute clinical assessment, including:
- Hepatobiliary ultrasound
- Kidney & bladder ultrasound
- FAST trauma assessment
- Basic cardiac ultrasound
- Lung ultrasound & eFAST
- Knee ultrasound
- Shoulder ultrasound
- Thyroid & neck ultrasound
4. Go Beyond Seeing an Image — Learn What It Means Clinically
Day 2 moves beyond basic scanning into using ultrasound findings alongside clinical assessment.
The goal is not simply to “know how to scan”, but to understand where POCUS may assist your clinical evaluation and decision-making.
5. Guided Learning in a Dedicated Ultrasound Training Facility
Train in a structured environment at the IDSMed Training Facility, with practical scanning sessions designed to give participants greater exposure to ultrasound equipment and scanning techniques.
